What is the work hours calculator?
The work hours calculator is a free tool to find the total value of a service billed by the hour. You enter how many hours and minutes you worked, your hourly rate, and the currency — the system converts the time to decimal hours, multiplies by the rate, and shows a result ready to copy or screenshot.
It was built for people who, like many freelancers, need to turn a time log such as "5h 19min" into an invoice amount without opening a spreadsheet or doing the decimal conversion by hand.
Why this tool exists
Anyone who bills by the hour — designers, developers, consultants, writers, social media managers, photographers — repeats the same ritual: log the time, convert minutes to decimal, multiply by the hourly rate. It sounds simple, but it is tedious and easy to get wrong, especially when a client wants a quick number over chat or email.
We created this page to speed that up: calculate the value of the work done, remember your hourly rate in the browser, and leave a clean summary you can screenshot and send — or just copy the total when that is enough.
How to use the calculator — step by step
- 1
Enter hours and minutes
Type how many hours and minutes you worked. Minutes go from 0 to 59. No manual conversion needed.
- 2
Fill in your hourly rate
Enter what you charge per hour. On the first visit the field starts empty; after that, the value is saved in your browser.
- 3
Choose the currency
On the English page the default is US Dollar ($). Switch to Brazilian Real (R$) if you need it. Currency is saved too.
- 4
Check the summary, then copy or screenshot
On the right you will see hours worked, hourly rate, and total value. Use "Copy total value" or screenshot the Summary card to send to your client.
How hours and minutes are converted
The tool uses the same formula as financial spreadsheets:
decimal hours = hours + (minutes ÷ 60)
total value = decimal hours × hourly rate
Practical example: you worked 5 hours and 19 minutes at $100.00 per hour.
- 19 ÷ 60 = 0.3166…
- 5 + 0.3166… = 5.3166… hours
- 5.3166… × 100 = $531.67
Without the correct conversion, people often treat 19 minutes as 0.19 and undercharge — or waste time with a separate calculator. Here the decimal and the total are generated for you.
